Salvagepunk as an aesthetic-philosophical concept stands radically different compared to other “punks.” Rather than being a pure utopian vision as with Solarpunk, which nt only lacks a concrete aesthetic form but its philosophical works are quite lacking, and the dystopia ripe for critique as with Cyberpunk, Salvagepunk is a way to theorize how one can live in the post-apocalypse post-capitalist society. Evan Callder Williams defines salvage punk as “the post-apocalyptic vision of a broken and dead world, strewn with both the dream residues and real junk of the world that was, and shot through with the hard work of salvaging, repurposing, détourning, and scrapping.” For us Communists today, salvagepunk is necessary as it provides a lens through which we can look upon the future-ruins of the world and extract what is needed, to build a world on top of the ruins of the old.
